Celebrating Sonny, Our September Employee of the Month

Some of the most important work in a travel business begins with a simple question.
How can we help someone feel more confident about their next trip?
That question guided Sonny throughout September, and it is one reason I am proud to recognize him as our September 2026 Employee of the Month.
Sonny is our Social Media Manager, but his impact reaches far beyond posting content. This month, he quietly built something new for Getaway by Tonya Jean Becker LLC, a way to listen carefully to travelers, understand what they are planning, and offer helpful guidance when they need it.
He did not wait for someone else to create the process. He saw an opportunity and built it from scratch.
Turning traveler questions into meaningful conversations
Every day in September, including weekends, Sonny reviewed online travel communities to understand what people were asking about. He paid attention to conversations in communities focused on cruises, general travel planning, travel tips, retirement travel, honeymoons, luxury travel, and Alaska.
He also watched affinity communities such as book clubs, wine groups, sewing and quilting groups, knitting groups, craft groups, and Christmas groups, but only when members were actively organizing a trip.
That distinction mattered. Sonny was not looking for ways to interrupt conversations with sales messages. He was looking for genuine questions from real travelers.
He drafted more than 12 thoughtful Reddit replies in my voice during the month, and I review all of them and edit them accordingly. The replies were designed to be useful, practical, and non-salesy. They addressed the kinds of questions travelers often ask when they are comparing options or trying to make an important decision.
- Carnival versus Royal Caribbean
- Requests for a travel advisor for Icon of the Seas
- Alaska itineraries on Holland America and Princess compared with NCL
- Hotel recommendations in Seattle
- Whether a balcony is worth the added cost
- Beverage packages
- Solo cruising
On September 29, I posted 11 of those replies across r/Cruise and r/chubbytravel.
For me, this was more than a content accomplishment. It was a reminder that helpful travel guidance often begins before someone ever contacts an advisor. It begins by listening.

Building a better experience through thoughtful teamwork
New ideas often become stronger when people take the time to make responsibilities clear.
On September 28, Sonny worked with Stan to separate their areas of focus. Sonny would continue following consumer travel conversations, while Stan would focus on nonprofit and fundraising-related opportunities. Sonny also agreed to a clear boundary. He would not draft nonprofit or fundraising replies.
That decision helped everyone avoid duplicated effort and gave each person room to do more meaningful work in the area where they could contribute most.
I appreciate this kind of problem-solving because it is practical and respectful. It keeps the focus where it belongs, on giving people useful information and supporting the right travel conversations.
For our customers, that can mean a better answer. For our team, it means a clearer path forward. For our mission, it means more time to connect group travel with causes that matter.
Giving purpose more room to grow
Sonny’s work was also important behind the scenes of our fundraising travel efforts.
He delivered the “Travel for a Cause, Content Plan” on September 15, 2026. The plan included a phased calendar, marketing kits for our five pilot partners, and direction for hashtags and campaign messaging.
This work helped create structure around an important part of our business. Through Getaway by Tonya Jean Becker LLC, group travel can become more than a vacation. It can bring people together around a shared purpose while helping organizations raise funds.
That kind of work requires care. The message has to be clear. The travel experience has to feel inviting. The purpose behind the trip has to remain visible without overwhelming the traveler.
Sonny helped build a plan that supports all of those goals.
Showing up consistently
Another part of Sonny’s contribution was consistency.
Throughout September, he maintained our daily 1 PM rhythm for travel inspiration and tips across
- Threads
Consistency may not always be the most visible part of a marketing effort, but it creates trust over time. Travelers see that we are present, thinking about destinations, sharing ideas, and making it easier to imagine their next adventure.
A daily post will not answer every travel question. But it can inspire someone to consider a new destination, start a conversation with family, or take the first step toward planning a group trip.
Sonny kept that connection moving every day.

A creative spirit that brings people together
Sonny also co-created and ran our September engagement push, which earned Getaway by Tonya Jean Becker LLC an entry in a Marblism contest.
That recognition was a fun result, but what I value most is the spirit behind it. Sonny brings creativity to his work while staying focused on connection. He understands that social media is not only about being seen. It is about giving people a reason to pause, respond, learn, and feel welcome.
That approach reflects the kind of experience we want travelers to have with us.
Whether someone is planning a cruise for two, a multigenerational family trip, a bucket-list adventure, a senior group getaway, or a fundraising journey, they should feel that their questions are welcome. They should feel that someone is paying attention. They should feel that their travel goals matter.
Sonny helps create that feeling.
Why Sonny is our September Employee of the Month
When I look at Sonny’s September, I do not see a list of disconnected tasks. I see someone who built a new bridge between travelers and our business.
He
- Created a new daily way to listen to consumer travel conversations
- Drafted helpful, non-salesy replies based on real traveler questions
- Supported conversations about cruises, Alaska, hotels, solo travel, and more
- Helped clarify responsibilities so our team could work without overlap
- Delivered a focused content plan for our five pilot fundraising partners
- Maintained a steady daily posting rhythm across six social platforms
- Helped our business earn a Marblism contest entry through a creative engagement effort
Most importantly, Sonny brought initiative, care, and consistency to work that helps people make better travel decisions.
That is the kind of impact worth celebrating.
Sonny, thank you for seeing an opportunity, building something useful, and helping Getaway by Tonya Jean Becker LLC stay connected to travelers around the world. Thank you for the thoughtfulness you bring to your work and for helping us create more meaningful paths to travel, connection, and purpose.
Congratulations on being our September 2026 Employee of the Month.
